“…Regret is my constant companion. Do not let it become yours.” — Albus Dumbledore

I really love the sentence above, something that Dumbledore said to Leta Lestrange in the movie of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. For all of us who already watched this movie, must’ve known how guilty Leta about her dead brother, Corvus.

I believe every single one of us experiences something we called regret. A feeling about something that we mistakenly have made and wish that it could have been better if we do it differently. And in my case, it’s something about the wrong decisions I’ve made in the past that I still can’t manage to forgive myself.

I’m choosing the wrong path for my education. And it led me to the struggle I have to face right now. I always had these thoughts playing inside my head.

what if I chose another way of life so I shouldn’t be this miserable? or something like I should’ve done that better.

And so on, the list kept going.

Over the years, I have lived with regrets. And I know that it changed me in some ways. I became a toxic person. And I didn’t want to live like that anymore, so I slowly learn how to forgive myself to this very day.

Being honest with myself is the first thing that I do. So, I grabbed my journal and start to write everything down. Every single regret, mistake, and feeling. I found this quite helpful and somehow I can deliver my negative thoughts properly without hurting anyone.

I couldn’t say that I’m free from regret, but slowly the weight of the burden is lessened.

“Accept the past as past, without denying it or discarding it.” — Morrie
